DIEP created a brief notebook on the history of emergence starting with quotes by Paul Dirac,  Stephen Hawking Steven Weinberg who have been strong proponents of reductionism, followed by quotes by condensed matter physicists Philip W. Anderson, Robert B. Laughlin, David Pines and Piers Coleman. The handbook expresses the point that reductionism and emergentism are two sides of the same coin and when combined lead to breakthroughs in science (see also talk by J.Armas). Several examples of these breakthroughs are given. The notebook also includes some of the questions related to emergence science that DIEP would like to answer.
